Coaching Tips
- Track the ball closely and stay on the balls of your feet for quick adjustment.
- Maintain a relaxed grip; absorb impact for control.
- Use a short, compact swing at waist–chest height; finish follow-through toward your target.
- Keep racket face open for lift and precision.
Make it easier
- Use a sponge ball or allow a bounce before volleying.
- Permit players to step off their marker if needed for control.
Make it harder
- Relay twice back and forth in a set pattern.
- Require both feet on the marker for every volley.
- Number players; volley in a non-sequential order (e.g. 1→5→3→4→2) to vary distances and angles.
Safety
Use the STEP framework—Space, Time, Equipment, and People—to adapt any activity for your players.
Always ensure there’s enough space to participate safely, and that under-18s wear protective goggles.
